Benecia - Natisone and Torre Valleys

At the heart of a priceless cultural heritage

A wide-angle shot of Cividale del Friuli, Italy in the evening

Cividale: po slovensko Čedad – This heritage trail through Cividale del Friuli – known as Čedad in Slovenian – celebrates the region’s rich linguistic tapestry. Winding through town, the route reveals the area’s historical, economic and social fabric, with particular emphasis on the early 20th century. For the Natisone Valleys, Cividale was indeed the commercial hub where inhabitants sold their products and found everything they needed. The route through the town reveals the markets and commercial activities of recent history.

The mount Matajur, in Italy, in a sunny winter day

The Matajur – Mount Matajur welcomes hikers with a network of well-marked trails – three approaching from the Slovenian side and seven from the Italian. For those seeking an easy ascent, trail 738 offers the gentlest route, starting from the easily accessible Pelizzo refuge at 1,325 metres. More ambitious hikers might tackle trail 749 from San Pietro al Natisone/Špetar, climbing over 1,400 metres, while adventure seekers can test themselves on the demanding Via Palma via ferrata, which rises steeply from the Natisone road near the old border post. For a balanced challenge, the Mersino/Marsin trail provides a moderate alternative.
