Cividale: po slovensko Čedad – This heritage trail through Cividale del Friuli – known as Čedad in Slovenian – celebrates the region’s rich linguistic tapestry. Winding through town, the route reveals the area’s historical, economic and social fabric, with particular emphasis on the early 20th century. For the Natisone Valleys, Cividale was indeed the commercial hub where inhabitants sold their products and found everything they needed. The Matajur – Mount Matajur welcomes hikers with a network of well-marked trails – three approaching from the Slovenian side and seven from the Italian. For those seeking an easy ascent, trail 738 offers the gentlest route, starting from the easily accessible Pelizzo refuge at 1,325 metres. More ambitious hikers might tackle trail 749 from San Pietro al Natisone/Špetar, climbing over 1,400 metres, while adventure seekers can test themselves on the demanding Via Palma via ferrata, which rises steeply from the Natisone road near the old border post. For a balanced challenge, the Mersino/Marsin trail provides a moderate alternative.
Monte Joanaz and Monte Nero – Mount Joanaz/Ivanac is a splendid mountain in the Benecia region that captivates with its picturesque beauty. It can be reached via Montefosca/Črni Vrh, following the well-marked CAI 735 forest trail, which leads safely to the summit of Mount Joanaz, offering breathtaking views. To return to the starting point, simply follow the marked trail number 735 northwest. The total length of the route, which leads to the mountain summit at 1,167 metres altitude, is 5.5 kilometres.
