A key location in the city centre is the Trgovski dom, which houses the modern Damir Feigel library. In addition to its lending services, it provides cozy study spaces, making it a favourite among students and readers of all ages. The building also hosts the Glasbena Matica music school and the Slovene Centre for Music Education Emil Komel.
Among the most important cultural institutions in Gorizia are two Slovene cultural centres, both located near the city centre: the Kulturni dom and the Lojze Bratuž Cultural Centre. These venues regularly host theatre performances, concerts, and art exhibitions. Choral singing is also highly popular, with local choirs often achieving top placements in national and international competitions.
Throughout the city and its surroundings, numerous cultural centres tied to local associations offer spaces where people can connect and contribute to shaping the cultural identity of their community.
The expansive Piazza Vittoria (Travnik), adjacent to Gorizia’s medieval centre, has been the setting for numerous historic events and large public gatherings over the centuries. It is home to the Slovene Catholic Bookshop – Katoliška knjigarna, which also hosts an art gallery. In the same building, you’ll find the Mohorjeva družba (Hermagoras Society), which played a key role in promoting literacy and the reading culture among Slovenes.
Piazza Vittoria is also home to the Kinemax cinema and the cross-border association Kinoatelje, which promotes the development of film art and organises filmmaking workshops for young people. Slovene films with Italian subtitles are regularly screened here.
