In search of the authentic soul of the mysterious Resia and Canale Valleys
Mount Lussari – Standing at the crossroads of Latin, Germanic and Slavic civilisations, Mount Lussari has been a sacred meeting point since the 16th century. Originally known as the Sacred Path of Three Peoples and now called the Sacred Path of Europe, this mountain embodies centuries of shared heritage. The church, dedicated to the Queen of HolyMount Lussari, was restored to its former glory in 2000. The addition of a modern circular cable car has transformed the site into a year-round destination, serving both winter sports enthusiasts and summer visitors drawn by the breathtaking views and excellent restaurants.
Ta lipa pot – In the heart of the Resia Valley, the village of Stolvizza/Solbica offers a network of beautifully maintained trails, lovingly cared for by the ViviStolvizza association with support from the Julian Prealps Park. Sun-seekers and nature lovers can choose from six distinct paths, with Ta lipa pot (The Beautiful Path) being a particular favourite. This versatile trail offers both a full ten-kilometre circuit and a shorter five-kilometre option.
The trail network includes something for everyone: the historic Sentiero di Matteo, the evocative Great War Trail (P4), the challenging Vertical Kilometer, the scenic Pustigost, the archaeological Ta na rado leading to ancient ruins above the village, and the accessible Stolvizza facile (Easy Stolvizza) – a gentle sub-kilometre path perfect for those with limited mobility. Beyond its trails, the Resia Valley beckons visitors with rich cultural experiences. In Stolvizza itself, the Museum of the People of the Resia Valley and the fascinating Knife Grinders’ Museum offer windows into the area’s unique heritage, customs and traditions.
Pot glasbe (The Music Trail) – Where music and landscape merge, the Music trail winds its way through the heart of Resian culture. Starting from Stolvizza village, this 9-kilometre path follows the Resia stream before climbing to the scenic viewpoint of ta-na Rawni, rewarding hikers with stunning vistas across the valley. The route meanders through a patchwork of woodland and meadows, leading to the village of Coritis/Korito. Here, particularly vibrant in summer months, traditional Resian houses stand as testament to local architectural heritage.
