The Torre Valleys

In the Embrace of the Musi Mountains

Beautiful small Italian village in the mountains, Lusevera, Friuli Venezia Giulia region

The route to the Torre Valleys/Terske doline passes through Tarcento, where medieval castles that once guarded the region now serve as fascinating museums.

The Torre Valleys are known for their winding trails, small churches, and villages perched on steep hillsides. In Lusevera/Bardo, visitors are welcomed by breathtaking views of the Musi Mountains/Mužci, and in the village itself, an ethnographic museum set up in a former dairy tells the story of a rugged mountain life, where people persevered through harsh conditions with a strong sense of community.

Amid Untamed Waters and Mysterious Caves

The Torre Valleys are named after the Torre stream and its many tributaries: Cornappo/Karnahta, Rieka, Grivò, and Malina. Along these waterways, a picturesque landscape of culture and nature unfolds, with villages and hamlets scattered across the valley floors and hillsides. The valleys are rich with forests and greenery. Due to unique geological conditions, the Torre Valleys are also home to many caves, including the impressive Grotta Nuova di Villanova/Zavarška jama, which features a cave exploration trail for visitors.

Devoted to Quality

For lovers of fine wine, this region offers several native varieties: Refosco di Faedis/Fojda, Picolit, and Ramandolo. Ramandolo is also the name of a hamlet in Nimis/Neme, where you can experience the essence of heroic hillside winemaking. Here, the vineyards are planted on scenic terraced slopes, offering breathtaking views over the Friulian plain and the Adriatic Sea. Terracing was once typical of the steep valley slopes as well, allowing for more land to be cultivated in these challenging terrains.
