Every year, Prosecco/Prosek comes alive for its patron saint’s feast day. St Martin – a fitting protector for this historic wine-making village – is honoured with celebrations that blend centuries of tradition with modern festivity. The village’s identity is deeply rooted in wine: at the foot of the Karst ridge, perched above the sea, a highly prized wine was cultivated for centuries on carefully worked terraces, and produced after a very late harvest. In recent centuries, this area also produced sparkling wine from the Glera grape variety, called Prosekar.
After years of dormancy, Prosekar is experiencing a renaissance, and St Martin’s Day offers the perfect opportunity to sample this local treasure. The festival transforms the village into a lively gathering place, with market stalls lining the main street and local producers sharing their wares in bustling squares. While a colourful funfair entertains children and young people near the village centre, the narrow lanes reveal traditional osmize – wine taverns where local producers and associations serve their specialities.
