The Slovene Folk Music Festival of San Floriano del Collio/Števerjan is the only Slovene folk music festival in Italy. The festival is competitive, open to all musical ensembles performing in this genre. Each group must perform two live pieces, either sung in Slovene or presented as instrumental versions – the first piece must be from the Slovene folk music repertoire, while the second must be an original composition premiered at the event. First organised in 1971, the Števerjan Slovene Folk Music Festival traditionally takes place during the first weekend of July in the village’s Pine grove (med Borovci).
The Festival extends beyond competition and music to offer exceptional food and wine throughout its three days of celebration. In recent editions, Saturday has been transformed into a grand celebration where a guest band provides live music, inviting audiences to dance the night away. For this occasion, the competition stage gives way to a dance floor.
