On February 8th, Italian Slovenes join their homeland counterparts in celebrating Slovene Culture Day. This national holiday, marking the 1849 death of Romantic poet France Prešeren, transcends borders to unite Slovene communities worldwide in cultural celebration.
Under the guidance of the SKGZ and SSO organisations, the day brings together Slovene associations, organisations and institutions for a showcase of cross-border culture. The main event is the central celebration, organised by the reference organisations each year in a different province. The ceremony begins with a formal speech by the main speaker, followed by the presentation of two awards for overall contribution to culture. The heart of the celebration is the cultural programme, organised by the association chosen for the event.
