Since 1971, the Rečan – Aldo Klodič Cultural Circle has organised a celebrated festival of Benecia music, contributing to the growth of musical culture in the Province of Udine, the formation of musical groups, and the preservation of local dialects. The festival’s driving force and soul was Aldo Clodig-Klodič, until his death in 2015, while musical direction was primarily handled by the late Francesco Bergnach – Kekko.
Over the years, around eighty composers and lyricists have participated in the festival, with more than 400 new songs premiered since its first edition. While song lyrics must be in Slovene dialect, there are no particular restrictions on musical style. The Senjam beneške piesmi has become a cherished tradition, though financial and organisational challenges have prevented it from being held annually.
